Prince George neighbourhood locked down for police operation

Several blocks in a Prince George residential neighbourhood are closed while RCMP conduct what they are calling a "police operation."

Police say there is a public safety concern, but aren't releasing any details about the risk.

The lockdown began at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, about four blocks north of Quinson Elementary School. The area has closed off to all traffic.

Police cars are stationed around the perimeter, and aren't allowing any traffic into the area.

Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesman for the RCMP, says people in the area are being told to stay indoors, and some homes may have to be evacuated.

"There are officers within that affected area that are going door-to-door to some of the residences,” he said.

“The other persons, we are simply asking that they remain indoors. And certainly, if they leave that area, they will be allowed to leave, but they won't be allowed back in."

Douglass says police are unable to release any more information for tactical reasons. He says more details will be provided once the matter has concluded.
