An 18-year-old Toronto man faces more than a dozen gun and drug-related charges after police allege he was caught riding on a TTC bus with a loaded, semi-automatic handgun.

Police say the man was riding on a bus in the Lawrence Avenue East and Orton Park Road area when he was arrested.

In a brief telephone interview, Det.-Sgt. Mike Stones told CBC News that the arrest was made shortly after the morning rush hour.

Police subsequently executed a search warrant at a home connected to the suspect, where "a quantity of marijuana, cocaine and hashish" were seized.

Following the search, four other people were charged with possession, including three of the man's family members.

Stones said the man on the bus caught the attention of police as a result of another investigation.
