Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2013 Launches With A POW! Parade (PHOTOS)

LOOK: Nerds and Geeks Unite! It's a POW! Parade

So, what would Calgary look like if it was taken over by a small army or Imperial Stormtroopers?

Thanks to the fastest growing pop culture show in the country, Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2013, comic, sci-fi and fantasy fans who took in the events' launching day parade - or POWparade - got a taste of what an intergalactic invasion of downtown Calgary would look like.

The parade wound its way through downtown along Stephen Avenue mall and ended in front of city hall on Olympic Plaza, where Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi also took in the celebrations dressed up as Back to the Future's Marty McFly, complete with a ride in a functioning DeLorean and a not-so-function hoverboard.

There were also super heroes, super villains, wizards, robots, aliens and guest of honour, Doctor Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman.

The event was sold out well ahead of time and is now considered the second biggest pop culture show in the country.

Other guests at this year's show include The X-Files' Gillian Anderson, legendary comic book writer Stan Lee, 300's Lena Headey, Star Wars' Carrie Fisher, The Terminator's Linda Hamilton and Kristanna Loken, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Stargate's Richard Dean Anderson, among a slew of others.
