TORONTO - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is wading into provincial politics, urging the New Democrats to vote against the Liberal government's budget and trigger an election.

On the weekly radio show he hosts with his city councillor brother, Ford said NDP Leader Andrea Horwath should "just say no" to the minority Liberals' budget.

The mayor argued Sunday that "taxpayers want an election" and Horwath should listen to them, "regardless of policy."

The Liberals tabled their budget Thursday and say it meets or exceeds all the demands laid out by the NDP, including a youth employment strategy and cuts to auto insurance premiums.

The New Democrats need to support the budget, or at least abstain from the vote, to avoid sending the province back to the ballot box.

The Progressive Conservatives, meanwhile, vowed to reject the Liberals' fiscal plan even before reading it.
