Teen killed in late night collision in Boucherville

Police are investigating a fatal car crash in Boucherville on Montreal's South Shore.

A 17-year-old girl was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died early Sunday morning.

The teen was a passenger in a car that had stopped at a red light at the intersection of De Montarville Boulevard and J. Armand Bombardier Street at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

A minivan approaching the intersection rear-ended the stopped car.

Police said they believe the minivan's driver, a 43-year-old woman, had fallen asleep at the wheel.

The driver suffered minor injuries, and police say her life is not in danger.

The four other young people who were in the stopped car also suffered minor injuries.

The intersection remained close Sunday morning while investigators tried to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
