The 49-year-old Valhalla man was snowmobiling with friends 70 kilometres southeast of Tumbler Ridge, B.C. at about 5:40 p.m. when he lost control of his machine and rode over a cliff face.
One of the members of the party used a satellite phone to call a friend who then called STARS for a helicopter rescue.
However, the man was declared dead at the scene.
The snowmobilers were driving up a mountain for the last run of the day, when the accident happened, said RCMP.
Tumbler Ridge is 650 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
