U.S. retailer Target opened 10 stores across Alberta Tuesday, but people weren't exactly busting down the doors to get in.

Approximately 30 people lined-up outside the Calgary Chinook Mall location, reports CBC Calgary, while about a dozen waited outside Edmonton's Bonnie Doon Mall, reports INEWS880.

Security guards were on hand at Market Mall in Calgary early Tuesday, where approximately 25 people lined up to get their hands on the bull's-eye brand wares, reports the Calgary Herald.

I love Target. Target’s fantastic,” Jenny Kennerd, who came with her mother Kathy Stuj to Market Mall, told theHerald.

“I love their brands. Whenever we go to the United States, it’s the first place we shop. We look for the nearest Target. And it’s just fantastic.

People using Twitter before entering the new locations were equally enthused.

"So excited about @target_ca being open in #yyc, down right giddy actually #targetgeek," tweeted @cowgirlwarrior, as she waited outside one of the Calgary stores.

Alberta's 10 stores - located in Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Sherwood Park and St. Albert - are the first of their kind in Alberta and part of a soft launch of 22 stores across the country Tuesday. Several other Alberta stores are slated to open later this year.

In Calgary stores are open in Chinook Centre, Forest Lawn Shopping Centre and Market Mall

Edmonton stores are located in Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre, Mill Woods Town Centre and West Edmonton Mall.

The Grande Prairie store is located in Prairie Mall, the Red Deer location is at Bower Place, the Sherwood Park store in Sherwood Park Mall, while the St. Albert location is in St. Albert Centre.

Each Canadian store, formerly Zellers locations, has undergone renovations in the neighbourhood of $11-12 million and will employ 150 to 200 people.

The company hopes to have 124 stores in Canada by the end of the year.

“Target is thrilled to be opening stores in Western Canada, providing a one-stop shopping destination that meets the wants and needs of our guests,” said Tony Fisher, president, Target Canada.

“It was exciting to see the response to our Ontario store openings, which have produced valuable insights that along with our soft openings in Western Canada will help us to continue to deliver on Target’s Expect More. Pay Less. brand promise for guests across Canada.”

Store hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
