Hospital waiting times in Montreal are some of the highest in the province, according to a survey released by La Presse today.

The annual survey calculates the average time Quebec patients spend waiting on stretchers before being admitted into a hospital room or released to go home.

According to La Presse, the average wait for a Quebec hospital is 17 hours and 30 minutes. The number has been gradually increasing over the past eight years, since the French newspaper first began releasing the survey.

The numbers are even worse in Montreal, where the average is close to 21 hours, according to La Presse.

The city's Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital has the worst record in the report, with patients reportedly waiting an average of 40 hours before being admitted.

CBC Montreal asked the Twitterverse for its worst and best stories about hospital waiting times.
