Habs' Carey Price questionable for Game 5

The Montreal Canadiens could be minus starting goalie Carey Price when they face Stanley Cup playoff elimination Thursday night on home ice.

Price appeared to hurt either his left groin or leg on Cory Conacher’s tying goal with 23 seconds left in regulation that forced overtime Tuesday night in Ottawa. He got up gingerly as the horn sounded and skated away from his crease.

Backup Peter Budaj started overtime and allowed the winning goal to Kyle Turris at 2:32 of the extra period to give the Senators a three games to one lead in the best-of-seven NHL Eastern Conference quarter-final.

Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada tweeted after the game that Price was questionable for Game 5 in Montreal (CBC,, 6:30 p.m. ET), according to Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien with a lower-body injury.

Montreal tough guy Brandon Prust also might not play Thursday after suffering an upper-body injury.

The Canadiens entered Tuesday’s contest without forwards Brian Gionta and Ryan White with upper-body injuries, as Jeff Halpern and Gabriel Dumont drew into the lineup in their place.

Therrien says he does not know if either player will be available for Game 5.
