The NHL gets back to its Original Six roots as storied rivals square off for series openers on Wednesday night (Detroit vs. Chicago) and Thursday (New York Rangers vs. Boston).

Here's a list of things you need to know, which we'll update throughout the day:

- Two of the three Selke Trophy finalists meet in Chicago Wednesday night. Pavel Datsyuk's Red Wings and Jonathan Toews' Blackhawks meet in Game 1 of their series (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 8 p.m. ET) just hours after the two centres were nominated as the league's best defensive forward.

- The oft-injured (but oft-clutch) Dave Bolland is excited to be back for his 'Hawks in Game 1.

- Meanwhile, the oft-injured Mikael Samuelsson will not be in the Red Wings lineup for Game 1.

- Here are the lines the Blackhawks ran in practice on Wednesday morning.

- The other Selke nominee, Boston's Patrice Bergeron, was back at practice with the rest of his Bruins teammates ahead of their Game 1 against the Rangers on Thursday.

- Bergeron might also have a fomer Rangers captain as a new linemate.

- With a depleted Bruins defensive corps, the team called up Torey Krug to fill in as Andrew Ference, Wade Redden and Dennis Seidenberg nurse injuries.
