GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. - A man has been arrested after several armed robberies and a brief pursuit in northwestern Alberta.

RCMP say the 24-year-old suspect was taken into custody overnight Tuesday at a rural home following holdups in Beaverlodge and Grande Prairie.

Police say the man, who has no fixed address, faces charges related to robbery, firearms and flight from police.

There was a brief pursuit of a vehicle Tuesday morning, but that was called off when it became too dangerous.

Students at all schools in Grande Prairie were kept inside as a precaution, although there was no lockdown.

Mounties later found a black Honda Civic that had been stolen at gunpoint, along with two pickup trucks, including one that was involved in the pursuit.

Officers surrounded a home Tuesday afternoon and at 2 a.m. they entered and found the suspect in the attic.
