Sleep and airports mix like oil and water but one chair-bed hybrid is looking to change that.
Travellers flying through Abu Dhabi International Airport can now use one of 10 sleeping pods to catch up on shuteye when a hotel bed or a good, old-fashioned chair just won't cut it. The Finnish-designed sleep capsules made their world début on Sunday at the U.A.E. airport, according to NBC News.
Officially known as the 'GoSleep pods, the devices start off as futuristic-looking chairs but convert to a flat bed with a pull down garage-style cover that shuts out noise, light and fellow travellers for a little over $12, payable only by credit card.
“We find the rates a little expensive, but if you’re in need of a couple of hours of much-needed sleep or just want to escape from the noise and hustle and bustle, it will definitely be cheaper than a hotel room in this pricey city,” Amy Tokic of the blog Sleeping in Airports told The International Business Times.
Abu Dhabi International currently has two pods at their Al Dhabi Lounge in Terminal 1, with another eight set up at a Terminal 3 boarding gate, notes CNN. Thirty-five more pods are on their way later this year, along with upgrades to provide internet access, storage space for valuables, as well as charging stations for traveller's electronics, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
