Police said the suspect in the case – a 15-year-old girl – now faces a slew of charges, including attempted murder.
The assault occurred at a house on Prospect Bay Road in the community of Prospect, just outside of Halifax, around 9 p.m. AT, RCMP said. The woman was hit several times.
Investigators told CBC News they were surprised Thursday morning that the woman had been released from hospital, as they considered her injuries to be life-threatening on Wednesday given the amount of blood she was losing.
Police arrested two 15-year-old girls less than two hours after the attack on a street in Halifax.
Along with attempted murder, one of the girls faces charges of:
- Aggravated assault.
- Assault with a weapon.
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
- Eight breaches of previous court orders.
- Theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000.
The second girl has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and 14 counts of breaching court orders.
Both remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in youth court Friday.
The victim and the suspects knew each other, police said.
'Eyes open from now on'
A neighbour said she was shocked by the incident.
“I don’t know what's happening to this area; I am stunned," Margaret Nolan said.
“The homes here are quite far apart, so a lot of things could go on that I don’t know about. I try to mind my own business. My house is fairly isolated. Things go on here, I guess, I don’t know about. I’m going to keep my eyes open from now on.”
Most neighbours said they didn’t know the occupants of the house.
