“An Aston Martin convertible was westbound on Westminster Highway and collided with a Mercedes SUV that was standing still in traffic, causing a multi-vehicle chain reaction,” RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said Thursday in a statement.
“The convertible was travelling at an extremely high rate of speed.”
Police say two females in the convertible, both in their mid-40s, were airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries. Both women underwent surgery and are now in critical but stable condition.
A 30-year-old female driving another vehicle involved in the collision was transported to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries and is also in critical but stable condition, police said.
The collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and shut down the intersection of Knight Street and Westminster Highway for several hours.
Knight Street remained closed to southbound traffic on Thursday, while Westminster Highway was closed in both directions.
