Police say man fell, was fatally struck by TTC streetcar

A man tumbled into the path of a streetcar on Queen Street East, which Toronto police say led to his death in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police say a 60-year-old man got off an eastbound streetcar and stepped onto a platform.

When the man was walking along the platform, he stumbled and subsequently fell into the rear wheels of a second streetcar that was following the one he had just exited.

The man suffered trauma in the fall and died, police say.

Police were called to the scene of the collision at 1:39 a.m. They closed off a section of Queen Street East, between Coxwell Avenue and Kingston Road, for about five hours.

The collision remains under investigation.
