BC Election 2013: Why It's Like Pornography (VIDEO)

Politics as porn

B.C.'s election has seen "Cummins all over Dix", while the party leaders have spent the campaign "bitching over bitumen coming down the pipe."

If that sounds like the plot of a bad porn movie, it also describes the 2013 B.C. election campaign, says Riotwire, a Toronto-based political comedy site that has turned its satirical eye to the west coast.

Bathrobe-clad host Vito points out all the ways that the B.C. election resembles a porn flick in a humorous video posted to YouTube on May 1.

"You've got Dix, you've got Cummy, you've got long, rigid pipelines, you've got a catfight between two MILFs," Vito explains.

That last, is a reference to the inter-provincial fight over the Northern Gateway between B.C. Premier Christy Clark and Alberta Premier Alison Redford.

The video goes on to slam NDP Leader Adrian Dix for his alleged "flip-flop" stance on the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion.

"Adrian Dix, where do you stand on this issue? Are you for pipelines, or against? The peoples of British Columbia want to know where you stand," he said.

The video isn't the first time that politicians and commentators have taken a lighthearted approach to the election campaign.

Prior to the writ dropping, the NDP released a video mocking Liberal ads that focused on the party's record in the 1990s.

Then, during the election campaign, former Conservative candidate Mischa Popoff released a video defending controversial comments that got him thrown off the party's slate.

The video showed Popoff in a corral with a bull that bucked him in the backside as he spoke, though it's uncertain whether the video was intended to be humourous.
