BC NDP Lead Liberals: Poll

NDP Lead Polls Before Election

The latest poll numbers favour the B.C. New Democrats over the Liberals with a nine-point lead, according to an Angus Reid report released on Monday.

In partnership with CTV and the Globe and Mail, Angus Reid polled 803 British Columbians and asked respondents to complete an electronic “real ballot” mirroring the one used by Elections BC.

Of those who participated, 45 per cent said they would vote NDP and 36 per cent said they would vote for a Liberal candidate. Nine per cent said they would vote Green while seven per cent said Conservatives.

Support for the two main parties remains varied throughout the province.

On Vancouver Island, the NDP lead is much more exaggerated with an 18-point lead over the Liberals at 46 per cent and 28 per cent, respectively.

In Metro Vancouver, Adrian Dix’s stark lead shrinks to a 7-point boost over Christy Clark’s Liberals.

In the province’s Southern Interior, the two parties are almost neck-and-neck with the Liberals leading with 39 per cent support and NDP with 37 per cent.

The NDP continue to pick up strong support from 47 percent of women and 54 per cent of voters between 18 and 34.

It’s do-or-die for Christy Clark’s Liberal party on the eve of the province’s 40th election.

“A third of their base is gone,” said Angus Reid vice-president Mario Conseco to the Globe and Mail.

“This [weekend] was the chance they had to reconnect with the base. IF there was an opportunity to connect, this was the moment to do so.”

Last week, an Ipsos Reid poll suggested the B.C. Liberals narrowed the gap gaining momentum from dropped NDP support.

British Columbians head to the polls on Tuesday.
