A 49-year-old North Vancouver man and his 10-year-old daughter were killed by a falling boulder while camping on Blackcomb Mountain this weekend, RCMP have confirmed.
The pair had gone up the mountain on Saturday to camp out and do some ski touring. After they failed to return as scheduled on Sunday afternoon a search was launched that evening. The search was called off around 11 p.m. because of darkness, but resumed on Monday morning.
The pair were found in an area known as the Windlip around 11:30 a.m. Police say it appeared that a large boulder had fallen from a rockface above their campsite and landed on their tent, killing them both.
Police have not yet released their names.
