Ron Leaf with Clearwater County says staff are working on criteria that may soon allow people to return to Nordegg, about 200 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
An evacuation order for about 100 Nordegg residents and 150 people living in and around the hamlet of Lodgepole was issued Sunday.
The province says the two fires remain out-of-control but have grown little since Monday.
No homes have been damaged; however, a Quonset and some sheds were destroyed on a property near Lodgepole, about 100 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
About 200 firefighters continue to battle the flames with heavy equipment, air tankers and helicopters.
