The royals continue to glimmer in the spotlight as the trio of Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry announced they've donated $150,000 for wounded soldiers to trek to the South Pole, according to a report from Hello! magazine.
The donation was made under The Royal Foundation’s Endeavour fund to support injured servicemen and women undertake exceptional challenges, and highlights the Royals’ continuing focus on philanthropic initiatives in the areas of the armed forces,opportunities for youth and conservation efforts.
Prince Harry, already a patron for the U.K. charity Walking With The Wounded, will join four British veterans to embark on a 208-mile trek pulling 70kg arctic sledges in close to -50 degree conditions. They will race against other teams representing the U.S. and the Commonwealth countries including Australia and Canada, Hello! magazine reports.
The four-week long Walking With the Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge, starting in November, aims to raise money for various military charities, according to USA Today. Teams will be accompanied by an experienced polar guide as well.
“These men and women have given their all in the cause of freedom, in our cause,” Prince Harry said at a press conference. “That they should once again step into the breach — this time facing down the extreme physical and mental challenges of trekking to the South Pole — just underlines their remarkable qualities.”
The three Royals, who have been no strangers to charity, have all individually supported causes in their own way. Harry is currently touring several U.S. organizations, Will has supported several projects on bullying and health awareness, while The Duchess Of Cambridge made an appearance at a children's hospice last month.
