ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Newfoundland and Labrador government will issue tenders later this month to begin the final phase of cleaning up a former mine site in Buchans.

Environment Minister Tom Hedderson says the tenders will be issued May 25.

The province's spring budget allocated $2.5 million for soil cleanup in residential and public areas.

Since 2010, the province has spent $14 million on the project.

The first two phases of the project consisted of capping the tailings spill area and removing soil from more than 200 residential properties and public areas.
