Stanley Cup Stories: Blackhawks down but not out

Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks rebounded against the Detroit Red Wings, while the Boston Bruins punched their ticket to the East final in the top NHL playoff stories from Saturday.

1.Everything was in place for the Red Wings to complete the upset in Game 5. Even the Blackhawks' intro music — Stranglehold by Michigan rocker Ted Nugent — was a reminder that Detroit held a commanding 3-1 series lead. But Andrew Shaw netted a pair for the Blackhawks as Chicago avoided elimination with a 4-1 win. Captain Jonathan Toews also found the back of the net for his first goal this post-season after losing his cool in Game 4. The series returns to Joe Louis Arena on Monday (CBC,, 8 p.m. ET).

2. The Boston Bruins have booked a date with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference final. Gregory Campbell scored twice and rookie call-up Torey Krug continued to impress as the Bruins defeated the New York Rangers 3-1 in Game 5. How do the B's measure up against the dominant Pens? breaks down the numbers.

3. Home ice has certainly been an advantage between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings. With the home squad winning the first five games of the series, the Sharks hope to stay alive in Game 6 at HP Pavillion on Sunday (8 p.m. ET). Until then, the road-team Kings share a hotel with some diehard anime fans, while Sharks centre Logan Couture stays loose with comfort food and video games.
