WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. - A teenage longboarder who suffered a head injury after a collision with a van in West Vancouver remains in intensive care as his classmates grapple with the news.

They returned to school Monday morning to learn the boy was involved in a collision with a van driven by another classmate.

A second longboarder who was on the scene around supper time Friday is also from Rockridge Secondary School.

West Vancouver police say a counselling team is at the school to help students cope with the incident.

The family of the injured 17-year-old boy is requesting privacy and police say his name won't be released.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
