Suspect charged with attempted murder for assault of young girl

A 41-year-old man is facing attempted murder and sexual assault charges after allegedly beating an 11-year-old girl in Ville-St-Laurent Sunday night.

Montreal police said the suspect is an acquaintance living in the girl's home.

She was sent to the hospital and treated for injuries to her eyes and neck.

Many of the details in the case are under court-ordered publication ban because the girl is a minor.

Prosecutor Nadine Haviernick said the Crown wants the man to remain behind bars.

"First reason is the gravity of the infraction, and for the protection of the society and the protection of the public," said Haviernick.
