Barenaked Ladies 'Boomerang': Band Debuts Charming Animated Music Video (EXCLUSIVE)

WATCH: Barenaked Ladies' 'Boomerang' Video

The Barenaked Ladies have released the new music video for their song "Boomerang" and HuffPost has the exclusive first look.

"Boomerang," the first single off the band's twelfth proper album "Grinning Streak," is just your average, everyday animated tale of an anthropomorphic boomerang who's thrown in the air by a redheaded girl, accidentally hits her in the face on its return flight and is banished because of it. Then, after the boomerang stalks the girl for awhile and finds out she's sad it goes to a magical tanning salon and suddenly gets transformed into a human Prince Charming-type who happily meets up again with the now-adult-girl as she's playing beach volleyball.

Happens to all of us.

The Ladies went to the public to get "Boomerang" made, conducting a crowdsourcing contest on Genero.tv where the winning video treatment would score $5,000. London, U.K. animation team Izzy B and Jacob Larys won out and BNL couldn't have been more pleased.

"We were thrilled to have so many videos to look at for Boomerang," Barenaked Ladies' Tyler Stewart told HuffPost. "Never before have we had so many professional looking films to choose from for a single. Back in the day we used to spend equivalent money that would buy a nice home in Toronto just to make some fairly crappy videos that sometimes never even aired on any 'music television!' So to have a contest for aspiring filmmakers, and to have the reasonably-budgeted finished results on the web for all to see, was thrilling for us on a couple of levels.

"In the end, It was a tough decision, but the charming and simple animated video from Jacob Larys and Izzy B caught all of our attention and we declared it the winner based on the great visualization of the themes in the song. Congratulations Jacob and Izzy."

This year marks BNL’s 25th anniversary (remember when it used to be a thing to throw Kraft Dinner at them?) and they’ll celebrate by headlining The Last Summer On Earth Tour 2013, a bill that also features Ben Folds Five and Guster. The album "Grinning Streak" will be released on June 4.
