Statistics Canada's latest payroll report shows earnings grew 3.1 per cent on average over the year to March, 2013.

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $915 in March, up 0.7 per cent from the previous month.

The report also showed pretty large differences in hiring among industries, with construction leading the way, increasing total employment by a whopping 5.8 per cent. At the other end were cultural and information industries, which shed 3.3 per cent of all jobs over the past year.

Year-over-year growth in average weekly earnings outpaced the national average in six of the largest industrial sectors, including educational services where they rose 4.3 per cent to $995 and professional, scientific and technical services, where earnings grew 4.0 per cent to $1,284.
