Acclaimed producer Daniel Lanois seems to be sitting out the current studio work U2 is undertaking towards their new album, but he's listened to the album and seems quite impressed.

Lanois was interviewed by Globe and Mail music journalist Brad Wheeler who tweeted some of the information gleaned from Lanois Wednesday evening.

Lanois is apparently fine about not working with the band this round.

The reporter also said when asked about U2 working with Danger Mouse as producer, "Lanois smiled and said 'It'll be a character-building experiment for him.'"

There's no word when U2 will release the followup to 2009's "No Line On The Horizon."

Meanwhile, Lanois was confirmed earlier this week on the stellar Greenbelt Harvest Picnic lineup headlined by Neil Young and Crazy Horse as well as Emmylou Harris. According to the official site, Whitehorse, Trixie Whitley and Rocco DeLuca will also be on the Aug. 31 bill slated for Christie Lake in Dundas, Ontario.
