A Surrey car dealership could have used Boss Hogg's help when a man took a car on a "Dukes of Hazzard-style" chase over a 1.3-metre drop before the man was arrested.

The incident took place when a couple brought a GMC Jimmy to the Applewood Kia dealership on Fraser Highway in Surrey with the hope of trading it in for a new car on Saturday, News1130 reported.

The couple was signing paperwork when someone took off with their SUV - before returning to the lot 15 minutes later.

Staff spoke to the driver before he revved the engine and took off, driving over a 1.3-metre drop and landing in the parking lot of a restaurant, before fleeing on foot, the Surrey RCMP said in a Saturday news release.

Staff from the dealership caught the suspect, though he continued to try and get away.

RCMP Staff-Sgt. Murray Hedderson told the radio station that the scene reminded him of the popular television show from the 1980s about a pair of cousins who constantly dodge corrupt county commissioner Boss Hogg in their General Lee stock car.

The driver, described as being approximately 50 years old, is in police custody as Mounties try to confirm his identity. Police say they are not ruling out the possibility that drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
