Viola Lisa Ribbonleg Charged With Negligence In Fox Lake Baby Death

FOX LAKE, Alta. - Police have charged a woman with causing the death of her baby in a remote community in northern Alberta.

The 10-month-old girl was taken to the Fox Lake nursing station on May 29 and was declared dead a short time later.

Medical staff alerted tribal police and Mounties joined the investigation.

Viola Lisa Ribbonleg, 32, is charged with criminal negligence causing the death of Lexi Ribbonleg.

The woman is to appear in Fort Vermilion court on July 2.

Fox Lake, a community of about 2,000 people along the Slave River, is part of the Little Red River Cree Nation.
