Officials say 200 people have been forced out of an area in northern Manitoba because of a forest fire.

That number includes 100 residents of Ilford, a small First Nations settlement, who have been relocated to Thompson.

Another 100 Manitoba Hydro workers have left their camp near Gillam but are expected to be back on the job by Monday, according to company spokesman Glenn Schneider

The fires, which started Thursday, are burning near Ilford and War Lake First Nation about 1,000 km north of Winnipeg.

By Sunday evening the province had reopened a section of Highway 280 in the area that had been closed because of poor visibility due to smoke.
