Police have laid charges in connection to Tuesday's evacuation of Calgary's tallest skyscraper.
A man was arrested on Wednesday after a lengthy police altercation at The Bow, a 58-storey office tower in the city's downtown core.
The man allegedly made threats and told security guards to call police and the SWAT team.
"Building security were advised that there was a man on the 55th floor in a women's washroom," said police spokesperson Kevin Brookwell
The door to one of the stalls was locked and security could see footwear underneath. After unsuccessful verbal contact, security forcibly entered the stall.
The threats were described as bizarre comments that included references to terrorists. It was also believed the man had a knife.
"There was also a smell of smoke in that washroom," said Brookwell, which led to fire-fighters on scene.
When security tried to intervene the man slipped away, leading police to search every floor of the building for the suspect and any suspicious packages.
"We did what we needed to do to ensure the safety of that building," said Brookwell.
A fire alarm was also pulled, which in combination to the perceived threat led to the evacuation of the building.
