Christy Clark, Alison Redford Meeting In Kelowna Friday

Premiers To Meet Friday
CP

Christy Clark is set to meet Alberta Premier Alison Redford in Kelowna on Friday in their first encounter since B.C.'s premier led the Liberals back to government last month.

The premiers will meet at the city's Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre, with a news conference to come at 11 a.m.

The meeting comes amid frosty relations between the premiers. B.C.'s government announced its formal opposition to the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline from the oil sands to the coast in late May after Enbridge failed to assuage its environmental concerns.

B.C. has, however, left the door open to change its mind before the National Energy Board (NEB) makes its decision on whether to approve the pipeline, setting a series of strict conditions that it believes the project should meet before being issued a certificate.

Relations between the provinces turned sour in July when Clark demanded a greater share of economic benefits from the pipeline, a proposal Redford shot down immediately.
