Hotstove: Brendan Shanahan talking to Flames

Desperate to improve their hockey team, the Calgary Flames have been attempting to bolster the organization both on and off the ice, according to the Hotstove panel.

NHL chief disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan has spoken with the Flames about a possible position with the organization, a meeting that commissioner Gary Bettman is aware of.

The second piece of news relates to the upcoming NHL draft.

According to Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman, the Flames offered Colorado all of their first-round picks (sixth, 22nd, 28th) for the Avalanche’s top overall selection.

Colorado, however, turned down the offer.

This year’s draft features three highly coveted players: defenceman Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks, winger Nathan MacKinnon and centre Jonathan Drouin, both of the Memorial Cup-winning Halifax Mooseheads.
