Over the weekend, police were canvassing homes in the neighbourhood and searching through trash cans.
In a strange coincidence, the fire broke out at the home of an elderly woman who was killed earlier in the day, when she fell under a bus at around 9 a.m. PT.
Naranjan Dhesi was heading to an annual seniors trip organized by the Ross Street Sikh Temple and was trying to board the bus when it started to roll and she lost her footing.
The fire broke out in the basement of the Dhesi family home on the 900 block of East 63rd Avenue just before 5 p.m. PT as about 20 people were gathered upstairs.
