B.C.'s private schools have once again topped the Fraser Institute's rankings of the province's best educational institutions, while two independent international schools round out the worst for the 2011/12 school year.
Vancouver's all-girls York House and Crofton House schools topped the rankings with perfect scores, consolidating their top spots for five years straight.
Surrey's Southridge private school came in third, followed by Vancouver's St. George's all-boys school in fourth and West Point Grey Academy in fifth place.
The highest-ranked public school on the list was University Hill Secondary at UBC, which placed 18th, along with Kelowna Christian and King David, a Jewish high school in Vancouver.
At the bottom end, Nisga'a Secondary School in New Aiyansh came last with a score of zero, just behind Kumsheen Secondary School in Lytton, and two independent high schools in Vancouver - Century International and St. John's international.
Notably absent this year was the school in Bountiful, B.C.'s polygamous community, which received a perfect score in 2011, The Globe and Mail reported.
The Fraser Institute bases its rankings on seven factors including the average exam mark in grades 10, 11 and 12, including provincial exams; the percentage of provincial exams failed in those same grades; graduation rate and the delayed advancement rate.
The institute then assigns a school a rating out of 10 after a series of calculations that take exam results and other factors into account.
