The third time was the charm for Newfoundland-based, B.C.-born singer-songwriter Allison Crowe.
After film director Zack Snyder tried to get one of Crowe's songs into the 2009 film "Watchmen" and again in 2011 with "Sucker Punch," he finally succeeded this year. The film is the summer blockbuster "Man Of Steel" and features Crowe in a cameo role.
"We filmed in October of 2011 so I've known for a good long time," Crowe says from her home in Corner Brook, Newfoundland earlier today. “This did end up working out and I was actually physically able to be in the movie, so that's kind of neat, too.”
Crowe -- who recently released her own compilation entitled "Songbook" -- says she had to sign a confidentiality letter to keep her appearance a secret.
"My family knew, they were able to know but there were a lot of my friends and a lot of my family that didn't know as well," she says. "It was really tough (keeping a secret) but it was really fun too. When I went to see The Dark Knight last summer, the first trailer played in front of that and we were there with people. I was like, 'Ahhhhh....' Just knowing that I was going to be in it but also knowing that I wasn't allowed to say anything.”
The singer performs about half of the Johnny Cash classic "Ring Of Fire" as a musician at a bar approximately an hour into the film. While not giving away any spoilers, Crowe said Henry Cavill's Superman is also in the scene which was shot at The Cassidy Inn, a pub around Nanaimo, B.C., not far from where Crowe was born.
“It's something I'm already comfortable doing," Crowe says. "The scene I'm in we shot in one day and it was a lot of fun. It was just a whole new experience for me and it was something that I never seen done before. Just every single second of that day was amazing to me, so it was pretty cool."

With the big release also came the red carpet and New York City premiere on June 10th, something the musician said was also a lot of fun. Oh, and given the fact the film also stars Russell Crowe, she had some reporters asking if they were related.
"Not many, a couple, my actual brother's name is Russell," she says laughing. "So I can say in a way that I am."
The song isn't on the film's soundtrack scored by Hans Zimmer but Crowe isn't too concerned with that. The cameo can't do anything but be a career boost.
“A lot of people have seen the movie already and are going to see the movie,” she says. “And people who have never seen me before. It's pretty, pretty cool.”
And while she'll be shown on thousands of screens around the world this summer, Crowe will be busy in Cow Head, Newfoundland working at a theatre festival as the musical director for the production of "Newfoundland Vinyl: The Flip Side." She's also releasing a vinyl and digital-only album called "Newfoundland Vinyl" featuring popular songs from the region.
But it sounds like she won't tire of seeing "Man Of Steel" for a while.
"My boyfriend had Monday off so I waited for him [to watch the film]," she says. "I haven't started working up there yet, I start next week. So we went again last night."
