Calgary Flooding: Mandatory Downtown Evacuations, Buildings Closed

The Calgary Emergency Management Agency has confirmed they will evacuate the entire downtown core after widespread power failures.

People are being asked to stay away from the downtown core and Calgary Transit has announced they are suspending service in the area bordered on the north by 16 Avenue N, east by Deerfoot Trail, south by Glenmore Trail and to the west by 14 Street W. Buses will enter this area, but will not stop to pick up passengers or let people off.

The City of Calgary confirms the following buildings have been closed until further notice.

  • Bow Valley College
  • Ernst & Young Tower
  • Centennial Tower
  • Devon Tower
  • Shell Tower
  • Fifth Avenue Place
  • Suncor Energy Centre
  • Banker’s Hall Complex (East Tower, West Tower, Royal Bank, Banker’s Court, Hollingsworth Building)
  • The Core (all retail, as well as Home, Dome Towers and the Lancaster Building)
  • 5th and 5Th Tower
  • Stock Exchange Tower
  • Watermark Tower
  • Western Canadian Place
  • Gulf Canada Square
  • Encore Building
  • 635 8 Avenue Building
  • Livingston Place
  • Jameson Place
  • BP Centre
  • Intact Place
  • Selkirk HouseStandard Life Centre
  • 1520 4 St. S.W.
  • Palliser Square
