CBC's Do Crew raises money for Cancer Wellness Centre

Despite the rain, a hardy group of volunteers gathered in Kirkland today to raise money for the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre.

The fundraiser was the first event hosted by CBC Montreal’s Do Crew.

A devoted team of CBC staff, viewers, listeners and readers spent Saturday in Kirkland, selling raffle tickets and hot dogs for the charity.

Daybreak’s Monique Lacombe, who organizes the monthly event, said the fundraiser was a success.

“People have been going out of their way to say hello,” she said.

Volunteers Safa Sabsabi, 17, and her 15-year-old brother, Mahmoud, joined up with the Do Crew on Saturday.

For Safa, even the smallest acts of charity can make a difference.

"It … gives you a nice feeling inside. I helped something in the world," she said.
