Streaks of fire will fly across the Vancouver sky on Canada Day, as organizers of the day's facilities prepare to shoot sparks of light into the air over Burrard Inlet next week.

The Canada Place fireworks kick off at 10:30 p.m., from two barges located in Coal Harbour and Dundarave.

Approximately 450,000 people are expected to watch the display from locations throughout the city, and organizers have also set aside a paid viewing zone at Canada Place with proceeds going to Strathcona Community Centre's Food Security for Children program.

The fireworks come after a long day of activities including a downtown parade, an extreme sports show and concert series featuring Vancouver rocker Bif Naked.

Elsewhere, Surrey is putting on a Canada Day party that could rival Vancouver's. The city has booked Sloan and Platinum Blonde to headline an all-day concert series, with fireworks sparking up at 10:15 p.m. at the Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre.

Further out into the valley, the City of Abbotsford is putting on a fireworks display that begins at 10 p.m. at Rotary Stadium in the Abbotsford Exhibition Park.
