Drug probe leads to 35 arrests, 144 charges

Toronto police have arrested 35 people and filed 144 charges in the culmination of a three-week drug investigation.

Called Project Wanted, the operation began June 3 and targeted the street-level drug trade just north and west of the downtown area.

The operation was undertaken in response to community concerns about drug dealers and users in several areas, according to police.

Police say undercover officers made 12 drug purchases and seized crack cocaine, marijuana, heroin and ecstasy.

Police said the suspects arrested had 723 total convictions between them.
