Some area residents say they want the city to replace the food scraps bins with more secure containers.
“I think it's time to have a different garbage bin, like bear-proof like the other communities in Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam,” said area resident Judith Nusser.
Neighbour Louise McElhill agreed.
“I'm just worried that a bear might end up being destroyed because they've been brought in to the neighbourhood, ” she said. “I love the wildlife here and I really care about the welfare of bears. ”

The city says when it purchased the bins, animals weren't a problem.
Residents are being told to secure the bins in an enclosure, to freeze food scraps and to only put them in the bin the morning they will be picked up.Suggest a correction
