Man shot dead near Hawkesbury, Quebec police say

Quebec provincial police are investigating a homicide in Grenville, Que., across the Ottawa River from Hawkesbury.

A 25-year-old man was found lying in the middle of Rue Principale at about 9 p.m. Wednesday in that town, about 100 kilometres east of Gatineau.

"[The officers] saw the man had suffered some injuries by firearm," said Sgt. Benois Richard of the Sûreté du Québec.

"They asked for the man to be transported to the nearest hospital, where sadly he deceased around 1 [a.m.] this morning."

Victim from Brownsburg-Chatham, Que.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine what type of firearm was used in the shooting.

Little is known about the victim, but Richard said the man was from Brownsburg-Chatham, Que., not far from Grenville.

The investigation is ongoing.
