Nuttall and Korody plotted to use an explosive device to attack the B.C. Legislature in Victoria on Canada Day, according to the RCMP.

Pictures displayed by the RCMP showed several explosive devices built from what appeared to be pressure cookers. Similar devices were used in the Boston Marathon bombings in April.

The pair have been charged with three offences including attempting to place an explosive device at the B.C. Legislature in Victoria on Canada Day

The RCMP said the plans for the attacks were inspired by the ideology of the Muslim terror group al-Qaeda.

The Mounties said both Nuttall and Korody are Canadian-born citizens. Nuttall is 38 and Korody is between 28 and 29 years of age, police said.

The pair live in Surrey, B.C., the RCMP said.
