The former city councillor ran unopposed for the position of interim mayor, which she’ll hold until the Nov. 3 election.
She replaces ex-interim mayor Alexandre Duplessis, who resigned June 28 in the midst of a scandal allegedly involving prostitution and extortion.
“I’m very honoured to serve my city for the next four months,” she said.
Beaugrand, who first came to politics in 2009 as a city councillor, said her goal was to rebuild residents’ trust and confidence in Laval.
She said she also hopes to bring “something different” to Laval that it didn’t have with Duplessis or ex-mayor Gilles Vaillancourt.
Vaillancourt resigned last November after serious allegations of corruption were made at the Charbonneau commission and Quebec's anti-corruption unit UPAC searched some of his property.
Beaugrand is the first woman to lead Laval.
