A call came into police just after 12:30 this morning after someone in the area noticed something amiss with a black Mercedes sedan parked in a lot behind a residential building on 100th Avenue.
"The headlights were on – the driver's door was open," said Laval police Const. Frank Di Genova.
"The person just found that very strange for a Mercedes. It's a very expensive vehicle."
Two officers responded and started looking around the area for the driver after finding the car empty.
About 50 feet from the vehicle, they discovered the body of a man.
"They started first aid. They called for Urgences-santé, who came on the scene minutes after and took over," Di Genova said.
Despite the efforts of the first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Di Genova said the man was shot at least once, but other bullet casings were found nearby. The victim, who has a Montreal address, was not known to police.
The shooting happened behind the residence of the man's girlfriend, police said.
Officers set up a large perimeter around the building and a nearby wooded area as they looked for more evidence.
Police are canvassing the neighbourhood but said, so far, no one has reported hearing gun shots or seeing anything suspicious early this morning.
This the third homicide of the year in Laval.Suggest a correction
