VANCOUVER - Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) says a forest fire has prompted the company to pull out most of its employees working on its Elenore project in the James Bay region of Quebec.

Goldcorp said the fire was about 100 kilometres away and advancing towards the mine site with the prevailing winds.

All construction activity on the project was halted and the company was working with authorities to ensure the safety of those in the area, the Vancouver-based miner said.

The company did not immediately disclose details on the evacuation, including the number of people involved.

However, it said a crew would remain at the mine site to manage and implement preventive emergency measures.

Shares in Goldcorp were up six cents to $26.08 in mid-afternoon trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
