Amanda Korody Photos Show Terror Suspect's Goth, Industrial Past

Lots of questions surround Amanda Korody, one of the alleged Canada Day terror plot suspects arrested Monday, as varying reports emerge describing her as an Islamist extremist and a “very quiet young lady.”

Growing up in St. Catharines, Ont., Korody lived in an affluent city neighborhood known to be the home of convicted serial killers Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, the National Post reported.

She struggled through adolescence, trying to fit in with friends in and out of school.

Described as creative and smart by a high school acquaintance, Korody also struggled with mental-health issues.

Korody moved to British Columbia about a decade ago and somewhere in that time she converted to Islam. Her partner, John Nuttall, also converted. It was a religious decision that surprised few who knew the couple.

“They talked about their religion, but no terrorist plot, there was nothing like that,” said Ashley Volpatti, a close friend of Nuttall and Korody.

"There was nothing leading up to this, no warning signs."
