Photos of Lac-Mégantic's recent disaster show a heartbreaking scene.

A train carrying crude oil derailed in the Quebec town around 1 a.m. on Saturday, causing explosions and igniting a major blaze.

Some pictures show flames lighting up the night sky, while others show thick, black smoke billowing into the air.

The Sûreté du Québec shared an aerial view of the scene, revealing the scope of the damage.
