Patricia Celan had just spent a weekend parading a gorgeous head of hair on stage at the Miss B.C. pageant.
So what's the first thing she did when she was crowned Miss Charity B.C.? She cut it all off.
The young White Rock woman had her head shaved right on stage at Langley's Chief Sepass Theatre after raising more money than any other contestant for Cops for Cancer, an organization that itself raises funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Celan raised approximately $10,400, she told The Huffington Post B.C.
"I've been told that I'm pulling off a Natalie Portman-look," she told The Langley Advance.
Celan, a former Top Teen of Canada contestant, was touched by cancer after losing her uncle to the disease last year. She will volunteer this summer at Camp Goodtimes, a summer camp for kids with cancer in Maple Ridge.
Fundraising is a large part of the Miss B.C. pageant. In addition to workshops on standing posture and on-stage comportment, contestants partake in a large-scale group fundraiser for Cops for Cancer. The pageant raised $20,000 in total.
In addition to the newly-crowned Miss Charity B.C., Vancouver's Ava Vanderstarren was named Miss B.C.; Vancouver's Ashley Banuelos was named Mrs. B.C.; and Richmond's Rebecca Ketler was named Miss Teen B.C.
