VANCOUVER - Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) said Monday that rain has helped put out a forest fire in the James Bay region of Quebec that had threatened its Eleonore gold project.

The company had pulled most of its employees out of the project last week when the fire was about 100 kilometres away and advancing toward the site with the prevailing winds.

However, Goldcorp said the infrastructure and equipment at Eleonore, including power and communications, was undamaged.

The company said the evacuation of the project would have no material impact on the construction schedule.

The Eleonore project is expected to begin production in late-2014.
